Health and Safety

Health and safety when filming

During our filming, it is extremely important that health and safety is considered for the cast and crew and we researched some things to look out for:

  • It is vital that the camera equipment is supervised at all times for various reasons; because it is quite expensive, we obviously don't want anyone to steal it or for it to get damaged and because all of the filming is outside, the weather can be unpredictable so it is important to get the equipment inside as quickly as possible if it rains.
  • During the scene where the dead body of the protagonist is placed on the ground, we have to make sure that this is done carefully because she could injure herself on the hard ground.
  • Be careful filming near the road due to traffic and also passers by. To overcome this issue, there was always somebody who was not part of the cast or crew who would be standing on the pavement and to look out for any potential hazards.

A risk assessment helps to prevent any health and safety issues and reduce the risk of anything happening during production. These would be carried out regularly on professional film sets, so it is important that we did the same every time we filmed. A risk assessment includes:
  • Taking the time to assess what the activity is and if there are any potential risks involved
  • Make a list of any possible dangers that may be present
  • Assess how serious these dangers would be to both the cast and crew
  • Discuss how to decrease the risk or how to prevent any health and safety issues

Our filming took place in a suburban area and because we featured a taxi driving scene and had to film in the road at points, it was extremely important that we took all of these things into consideration. Although the area wasn't extremely busy, there were still cars driving down the road frequently so we had to film certain shots quickly and efficiently in order to reduce any risks or any dangers.
