Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback of the release of the Opening Scene

After having created our film opening, it was important to gain audience feedback to gain an insight into what they believe is good and where there is room for improvement. We took to social media as the platform for sharing our media product as our target audience is aimed at the age group that mostly use social media, as well as it being a free platform to promote the film opening. As well as asking for feedback from friends of the target audience age range.

Firstly, we went to the likes of the YouTube comment section after uploading the opening, to see what the general response was from the 63 views we received. From this, all of the comments were complimentary which is exactly what we had hoped for. Mainly, we were praised for the camera angles such as the POV shot of the protagonist packing her back and the large variety of angles we included. Moreover, another comment of positive feedback we received was the silhouette of the antagonist in the pan up shot at the end, this is the feedback we had hoped to receive from this as we carefully chose this shot so that he appeared unidentifiable and creepy.

A combination of social media platforms allowed us to gain feedback, here is a selection from Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat.

On Snapchat, we had many friends and strangers directly messaging us to complement our film. This was the same for text messages like the one shown, which together gave us an increase in confidence in our film as it was important to us to have people enjoying the opening as though they were anticipating the full movies release.

The only piece of constructive criticism we received was that one viewer had hoped we included a better focus on the strangulation special fx. Our response to this is that through the use of camera shots such as the long shot of the protagonist on the floor, it was obvious that she was dead and we wanted the shots to move quickly with the fast paced editing therefore didn't want to slow it down by focusing too heavily on the neck bruising. The opening shot in that scene is a close up whereby the neck is visible therefore if we had the opportunity despite the critique, we would not change how we constructed this opening.
