Production logos

Production company logos are important as it makes the film company recognisable by having the intro of their film production company logo at the start of the film. Many logos use four key features, which are:

  • Simple
  • Memorable
  • Appropriate
  • Timeless
This makes them suitable for use with most films and not too detailed or complex but are instantly recognisable and memorable for this reason. The fact that they are timeless means they will never go out of date and aren't too modern or old fashioned.

From viewing professional logos from these production companies i have gathered  the following:
  • Either a plain coloured background is used or a background of the sky
  • Most only include two to three colours throughout
  • The text tends to be in mainly white or gold, with a few exceptions
  • Occasionally an image will be incorporated
What I have learned:
Overall I have been able to identify the common aspects of a production companies logo, however as I am making a independent film I may find such a slick and professional looking logo inappropriate. I personally feel that a quirkier logo would better suit us as it would be able to convey personality and define us as an independent film company, as opposed to a corporate establishment.

In the end, we decided not to create our own production company logo and instead use an already existing one (see research on film institutions) because we felt that it would take up too much time to design and create our own logo. In addition to this all of the companies researched above aren't particularly suited to the psychological thriller genre but instead cover a whole range of different film types.
