1. What is your gender?

From this we can see that the majority of those taking our quiz were female with 20 responses, 38% were male and 2.94% would prefer to be identified as other.






2. What age bracket do you fall under?


From this we can see that 26 of the 34 people who answered were aged 13-18. 2 were aged 19-24, 2 were aged 25-40, 2 were aged 40-65 and 2 were aged 75 or older. This means that although the majority was 13-18 (teenagers who would most likely be the target market), we were still able to receive responses from across ages, making are results more legitimate and reliable. 









3. What is your favourite type of horror film?

From this I can evaluate that the most popular genre of horror film among our audience and the genre of film that we should implement in our work is a psychological horror film. The next popular was slasher films, paranormal horror and vampire films.



4. Which of these settings would you consider to be the most frightening?

From this pie chart, we can see that the most popular setting for our film opening to be set was a realistic home setting. The audience felt that having a setting that was a normal home and normal family, was scarier than the film being set in a graveyard or an underpass, where it is more unusual to come across these places.





5. Is there a particular scene in a film you remember to be particularly frightening? If so what scene in which film?

The 3 most recurring answers among the 26 responses were
1. The shower scene in psycho
2. The woman in black- when she jumped up at the window
3.The final scene in the Blair witch project

From our results I can infer that people prefer more psychological horror, as the scenes selected our psychological and a fear of the unknown.

6.When watching a horror film, what tends to engage/scare you the most?

Using the graph I can see that the audience find jump scares to be the most engaging thing when watching a horror film. Jump scares cause the audience a sudden unexpected rush of fear, which is what causes a film to be scary. Music was also labelled as important as people felt that having scary music in a film can make it scarier and more enjoyable. People went as interested in having blood and gore, the supernatural, ghosts or fantasy in a horror film.




7. What is your favourite horror film?

Most common answers included Blair Witch (2016), the Blair witch project, the shining, the woman in black and saw. Other answers included the omen, chucky, psycho, Annabelle and insidious,

From our results I can see that psychological horror is again what people like to watch. Films like Blair witch, the woman in black and the shining all have elements and conventions of psychological horror and that is perhaps why people have labelled them as their favourite horror films. The reason we asked this question was to see what people liked and therefore be able to draw inspiration from films that we know the target audience already like.

8. Who do you prefer the protagonist to be?

Using the pie chart I can see that the audience prefer the protagonist to be a teenage girl. Horror films often use a teenage girl due to the final girl theory. Examples of horror films where the main characters are teenage girls are scream and the Blair witch project. However Young couple was also very popular. Examples of horror films where the protagonist are a young couple is insidious and Annabelle. Unpopular answers included middle aged women and the elderly.

9. Who do you prefer the antagonist to be?

According to my results, the audience felt that a masked killer would be the best person to play the antagonist in our film opening. Examples of horror films with masked killers include scream and psycho. The next popular was middle aged man, followed by gang. However using a gang may lean our horror film more towards an urban drama that a psychological horror.


10. Which of these sounds would you consider to be the scariest?

The majority of responses felt that slow creepy music was the scariest and therefore our psychological horror movie opening will use slow creepy music. However music that increases in volume and silence were also popular answers and therefore incorporating elements of this into our horror film would cater for a wider audience.
