Film Institutions

20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Universal Pictures, Lionsgate, Hammer Productions, BOLD films

As for film institutions, 20th Century Fox is a film corporation which is one of the major six American film studios. The organisation was founded in 1935 hand has become the most recognised institutions in the world. It is a subsidiary of News Corporation. Some of the most successful films created by 20th Century Fox are: Avatar, Star Wars, Speed and The Chronicles of Narnia. The most popular film genres created are family and comedy, this includes films such as: Alvin and The Chipmunks, Doctor Do-little, Night at the Museum and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Despite this, as far as horror films go 20th Century Fox prefer to distribute horror rather than produce them for example From Hell and Jennifer's body. However films that they have produced and have nevertheless been successful include The Omen and Alien.

Universal Pictures also known as Universal Studios is a subsidiary of NBC Universal, and one of the six major movie studios. It was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmie. It is to this day one of the oldest American studios still in continuous production. Some of the well-known horror films created or distributed by Universal include: Drag me to hell, The Strangers, Dead Silence and Dracula. Like 20th Century Fox, Universal Studios prefer to produce films that are based on the genre of drama, romance and adventure as these are the ones that produce the largest audience and popularity.

Warner Bros is another one of the main film studios based in California and New York. Warner Bros is a global leader in creation, production, distribution, licensing and marketing in all forms of creative content. Some of the most popular films created by Warner Bros are Harry Potter, Valentines Day, Sex and the City, The Hangover, The Dark Knight and Slumdog Millionaire. Warner Bros like to create multiple genres of films in order to gain a widespread mass audience. Some of the most successful horror films produce by Warner Bros include Orphan, Friday the 13th, Missed Call, Sweeney Todd, The Wicker Man and House of Wax.

Hammer Productions is a film studio based in the UK. It was founded in 1934 and is best known for a series of Gothic Horror films. Some of the best horror films produced by Hammer Productions
are The Curse of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy and The Phantom of the Opera.

Lionsgate is a Canadian entertainment company. It was formed in Vancouer but is headquartered in Santa Monica, California. The majority of their film genres are drama, action and thrillers. The most successful horror films that Lionsgate have created or distributed are Saw 3D, Saw 1,2,3,4,5,6, My Last Valentine, The Eye and The Last Exorcism. Lionsgate are not particularly well-known or most successful in the horror genre.

The film institution that I feel my film would be best suited to is Hammer Productions as it creates small independent horror films that are successful and creative which is best suited to what I would like my film to be.
