Filming Locations

FILMING LOCATIONS

After location scouting and coming up with a basic idea for the location of our film opening, we decided we specifically wanted to film in a dark footpath. We picked one that was relatively close to our area as it meant we had better accessibility to it. We filmed at night meaning it was dark, and used the streetlight to our advantage in order to create silhouettes and fit conventions of the horror genre.

This is how we used the footpath in our film opening. We picked a time to film which was dark, in order to make the alley way more creepy, and used a member of our group to create black silhouettes which symbolise the killer. The streetlight here also creates warm lighting, that at the same time is somewhat harsh, as a single streetlight is capable of lighting a whole footpath.

We used a taxi to shoot the majority of the scenes in our film opening, and used a legitimate black taxi so all the props and shots shown were real. We tried to film specific parts of the taxi, such as the taxi sign, the for hire sign and the outside in order to show the audience the iconic London taxi.

Finally, in terms of the place the protagonist is seen to be hiding out, we used a garage, that has white brick walls and paint smudges over the walls. We covered anything too bright or colourful with sheets to make things appear to be more bland, and added a small airbed, a bucket and spread out clothing in order to create the impression that someone had been living there.
